With fireworks practically being the essence of wasting resources, the queen promoting nationalism and the army yet again in her speech, and the decline of the West seeming ever more inevitable, I can't help but wonder what this new year and new years to come will bring us. Whether we will continue on the same path of trying to correct a system which seemingly can't bring about a sustainable and fair world, or this economic and the inevitable environmental crisis will help make us see that we need a fairer, more easily understood, more equal, and more humane world. A world in which we aren't just parts of an economic machine, thinking no further than how to make profit tomorrow, but rather a world in which we all can live, love, create and build without damaging the prospects of the future. We have changed the world before, we can do it again.

Just find it a bit annoying that we celebrate the new year by blowing up stuff we have transported halfways round the world. Makes me wonder how much longer we can afford that and why we aren't trying to create a happy new year globally as well as locally, rather than just wish for one.
