Tá eg hevði verið niðri øll hesi árini, also tú menti teg kolossalt, tí at tú fekk ein nógv størri sjónarring.

The Modigliani–Miller theorem (the capital structure irrelevance principle) states that, under a certain market price process (the classical random walk), in the absence of taxes, bankruptcy costs, agency costs, and asymmetric information, and in an efficient market, the value of a firm is unaffected by how that firm is financed. It does not matter if the firm's capital is raised by issuing stock or selling debt.
Professors Modigliani and Miller made an important point — an increase in leverage, by itself (i.e., more debt relative to equity in the funding of a firm) does not create value. Banks, however, love leverage more than other companies because it allows them to exploit guarantees and subsidies from taxpayers. The heart of today’s economic argument is much more about the nature of the subsidies provided to very large financial institutions and how these distort incentives. The people running these companies are encouraged to take on more debt because this allows them to get more of the upside when things go well, while the downside is someone else’s problem.
According to the Modigliani-Miller theorem, the mix of debt and equity that it uses to finance its assets does not alter its average cost of financing. Use more “cheap” debt, and equity becomes riskier and costlier, keeping overall financing costs the same. Use more equity, and equity becomes less leveraged and less risky, which causes investors to demand lower returns to hold it, and again the overall financing cost remains the same. Put differently, given a set of cash flows from a bank’s assets, the bank’s value is not affected by how those cash flows are distributed among investors, so more leverage does not reduce the bank’s cost of funding.
You are engaged on a double task, Recovery and Reform;--recovery from the slump and the passage of those business and social reforms which are long overdue. For the first, speed and quick results are essential. The second may be urgent too; but haste will be injurious, and wisdom of long-range purpose is more necessary than immediate achievement. It will be through raising high the prestige of your administration by success in short-range Recovery, that you will have the driving force to accomplish long-range Reform. On the other hand, even wise and necessary Reform may, in some respects, impede and complicate Recovery. For it will upset the confidence of the business world and weaken their existing motives to action, before you have had time to put other motives in their place. It may over-task your bureaucratic machine, which the traditional individualism of the United States and the old "spoils system" have left none too strong. And it will confuse the thought and aim of yourself and your administration by giving you too much to think about all at once.
Gone through the crisis... we should realize that the resources in our economy, in the United States, in Europe, today is the same as it was five years ago. We have the same human capital, the same physical capital, the same natural capital, the same knowledge... We have the same creativity that has led to the unprecedented increases in standard of living that the world has never seen before. So, we have all these strengths, they haven't disappeared. What has happened is, we're having a fight over claims, claims to resources. We've created more liabilities... but these are just paper. Liabilities are claims on these resources. But the resources are there. And the fight over the claims is interfering with our use of the resources. So, the point is the following: we should recognize that if we could only get our resources back to work, we ought to be back to prosperity. In fact, we ought to have more prosperity than we had before, because before our economy was distorted... by a bubble in the United States, by a financial sector that was overbloated... We had a distorted economy. So, today if we could only get our resources back to work in ways that enhance the well-being, to use the creativity of the citizens of Europe and America then we will have unprecedented prosperity.
nú ætlar man eftir øllum at døma at lata loyvi endaliga út til tey, sum av tilvild eru inni í vinnuni júst nú. Tað gongur snøgt sagt ikki
Hóast heitið búskaparfrøðingur verður brúkt sum felagsnevnari fyri bæði samfelagsbúskaparfrøðingar og virkisbúskaparfrøðingar, er sera lítið samband millum tað, sum hesir báðir takast við. Tey fyribrigdi, sum gera seg galdandi fyri heilar vinnur ella alt samfelagið undir einum á aðrari síðuni og fyri ta einstøku fyritøkuna á hinari, eru so ymisk, at læra um virkisbúskaparlig viðurskifti gevur stórt sæð einki innlit í samfelagsbúskaparlig viðurskifti og øvugt.
